By September 20, 2025, more than 23,000 pilgrims have already arrived in Uman, Cherkasy region, for the celebration of the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah, over three thousand of whom are children. This was reported by the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, on the air of “Suspilne.”

Order and Safety

Taburets spoke about the creation of a coordinated operational interdepartmental headquarters in the city where the holiday is celebrated. It includes representatives of the National Police, government bodies, the migration service, the National Guard, and the State Emergency Service. The headquarters operates around the clock to ensure order and safety.

He confirmed that all possible shelters for pilgrims have been inspected. The city has 22 shelter facilities and 9 simple objects available, which can only accommodate 13,500 people. Since this number is clearly insufficient, mobile shelters are being deployed, primarily to ensure the safety of law enforcement officers.

Pilgrims’ Response to Alerts

Clarifying the reaction of pilgrims to alarm signals, Taburets noted that they do not show much concern. Although among the arrivals there are about 3,500 children, some of whom were moved to shelters, this measure was not systematic.

Expectations and Support

This year, it is expected that about 30-35 thousand Hasidim will gather in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Pilgrims have already begun arriving in the city. As part of ensuring law and order, police officers from Israel, who have joined their Ukrainian colleagues, are also participating in the celebration.
