Drones Shot Down Over Poland

Polish military reported that on Wednesday morning (September 10, 2025), they intercepted drones that violated the country’s airspace. This occurred amid new Russian air attacks on Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, drones launched by Russian military have already penetrated Polish territory, but this incident marked the first time that a NATO member country shot down a hostile device.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk specified on platform X that he received a message from the Army’s Operational Command about the “neutralization of drones that entered our airspace and posed a threat.” He also informed the NATO Secretary General about the actions taken by the Polish side.

The Polish Armed Forces were put on high alert on Wednesday night due to “new large-scale airstrikes on targets in Ukraine.”

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also reported on X that “more than 10 objects” crossed Polish airspace, and those that threatened the country’s security were neutralized.

Warsaw Chopin Airport suspended flights for several hours, citing the closure of airspace due to military operations.

In response to the penetration of Russian drones into Poland, Ukraine stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to “expand the war and test the West.”

Previous Incidents with Russian Objects

Poland has previously reported violations of its airspace. In August, the country’s defense minister stated that a flying object that fell and exploded in a cornfield in eastern Poland was identified as a Russian drone, which he called a provocation by Russia. In March, Poland scrambled fighter jets after a Russian missile briefly crossed Polish airspace on its way to a target in western Ukraine. In 2022, a Russian missile, likely intended for interception, landed in Poland, claiming the lives of two people.

Russian Attacks on Ukraine

It was reported that in the western part of Ukraine, in the Khmelnytskyi region, three people were injured as a result of Russian drone strikes. Regional head Serhiy Tyutyun reported on Telegram about the destruction of a sewing factory, damage to a gas station and vehicles, and windows blown out in several houses.

According to the latest data, in the Zhytomyr region on Wednesday night, one person died, and another was injured. This was reported by the head of the regional administration Vitaliy Bunechko on Telegram. Homes and businesses were damaged.

In the Vinnytsia region, Russian drones damaged “civilian and industrial infrastructure,” as noted by local leader Natalia Zabolotna. Nearly 30 residential buildings were affected, and one person was injured.

In the Cherkasy region, several houses and power networks were damaged as a result of Russian weapon strikes. In the Zolotonosha area, a shockwave destroyed a barn, resulting in the death of two cows, reported regional head Ihor Taburets on Telegram.
