German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during his visit to Chisinau that Moldova is suffering from Russian aggression against Ukraine and its consequences. He stressed that Russia and pro-Russian politicians are trying to disrupt stability in the country and expressed support for Moldovan leader Maia Sandu. In X (former Twitter), he wrote that they stand on the side of the Moldovan people.

Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections on August 21 against Alexandru Stoianoglo, the former Prosecutor General. On August 16, the Pobeda party held a congress in Moscow, attended by Ilan Shor and Eugenia Gutsul. They nominated Vasile Bol for president. The country has presidential elections and a referendum on joining the European Union on October 20 ahead.
