Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived in Turkey today, where he was greeted by Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It is the first visit by an Egyptian leader to the country in 12 years and was made possible by improved relations between the two countries after a decade of tensions that began after the events of 2013.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Egyptian and Turkish presidents will discuss issues of mutual interest, including “Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip,” developing trade ties and deepening cooperation between the countries. About 20 agreements are expected to be signed at the meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

The representative of the Turkey-Egypt Business Council noted that relations between the two countries returned to normal friendly relations about a year ago, and now the cooperation of the states strives to become even more fruitful, including in the areas of defense, energy, tourism, health, education and culture.
