The former Foreign Minister believes that there is a possibility that Ukraine will not be invited to NATO due to possible vetoes from member countries, similar to Viktor Orban, who refuses to support Ukraine's accession.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will appear at one of the summits and declare: “I, Baba Yaga, am against it.” There is no time to persuade Orban, given that in two months the elected US President Donald Trump may support him. This makes the situation theoretical. If Democrat Kamala Harris had won the US presidential election, things might have turned out differently.

At this time, Orban's chances of changing the situation are minimal, but he could suddenly appear at the meeting and influence the establishment of certain decisions. Ukraine has applied to join NATO in 2022 due to its conflict with Russia. Trump has promised to end Russia's war against Ukraine before his inauguration in January 2025. However, his plans were not detailed. According to the WSJ, one of the proposed plans assumes that Ukraine will not join NATO for at least 20 years. Instead, the US will supply the Ukrainians with weapons to defend against Russia.

Hungary, as one of the NATO countries, opposes Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance. Budapest believes that this could lead to a third world war.
