The Nagel Commission presented its proposals regarding Israel's defense budget on January 6, 2025. She recommends increasing defense spending by NIS 133 billion over the next 10 years, amounting to NIS 9-15 billion annually.

The commission's experts discussed the fall of the Assad regime in Syria and the consequences of this event for Israel's security. According to them, the threat from Syrian forces could be more dangerous than the Iranian threat, especially if the Syrian forces become “Turkish emissaries.”

In light of this, the commission proposed increasing the size of the standing army and increasing the length of service to 3 years in order to reduce dependence on the conscription of reservists. It also supports equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens, including the ultra-Orthodox, in the matter of military service.
