Recently, Syria's interim Prime Minister Mohammed al-Bashir expressed concern about the catastrophic financial situation in the country. After the overthrow of Assad, it is difficult to assess economic resources, but we can already say that there is almost no money left.

“In our treasury there are only Syrian pounds, which are not valued at all. For one US dollar they give 35,000 of our coins,” he shared in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera.

“We do not have foreign currency, and information on loans and bonds is still being collected. So, our financial situation is very bad.”

Al-Bashir also called on Syrians to return to their homeland, stressing that “Syria is now a free country that has earned its pride and dignity.” He assured that “the rights of all people and all faiths in Syria” will be protected. On December 11, 2024, the Prime Minister's remarks were published on the Clash Report Twitter account.

Abu Mohammed al-Julani, the leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, said that those involved in the torture of detainees during Assad's reign will be brought to justice, and there can be no talk of pardon.

“We will pursue them in Syria, and we ask countries to hand over those who fled so that we can achieve justice,” he commented in a message distributed on the Telegram channel of Syrian state television.

The situation in Syria after a 13-year civil war is being closely monitored by the international community. The United States is wary of interacting with the new authorities, given that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is still recognized as an international terrorist organization by Washington, the UN, the EU and other countries. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed the need to respect the rights of minorities, provide humanitarian assistance and prevent terrorist attacks.
