The Iranian rial fell to a historic low amid the restoration of sanctions, reaching 1,123,000 per US dollar.

What was Tehran’s reaction?

In response, Tehran announced its intention to react harshly to the sanctions. In particular, Tehran recalled its diplomats from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany for consultations.

President Masoud Pezeshkian noted that Iran does not intend to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. In a letter from Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, there was a call to stop the restoration of sanction enforcement mechanisms. The diplomat emphasized that Iran intends to “firmly defend its national rights and interests.”

Western leaders, nevertheless, noted that they are ready for dialogue and urged Iran to “refrain from any actions leading to escalation.” Israel, in turn, regarded the resumption of sanctions as an “important step” in the fight against its adversary.

The goal is clear: to prevent Iran from creating nuclear weapons. The international community must use all means for this purpose, stated a representative of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
