UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has faced Jerusalem's reluctance to engage with him, which has been called “counterproductive.” All 15 countries represented in the UN Security Council approved the corresponding statement. This happened on Thursday, October 3rd.
The UN Security Council expressed its “full support” for the secretary general after Israel declared him persona non grata. The Security Council noted that Jerusalem’s refusal to interact with the Secretary General is counterproductive, thereby repeating the reaction of the US State Department.
UN member countries see a particular problem in the breakdown in communication between Israel and the UN chief amid a sharp escalation of conflicts in the Middle East. All 15 countries represented in the UN body spoke out in support of Guterres and against Israel's diplomatic decision.
Let us recall that on Wednesday Israel declared the UN Secretary General persona non grata, indicating that anyone who does not condemn Iran’s attack on Israel has no right to set foot on Israeli soil. This became known from a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
