UN forces monitoring the division in the Golan Heights have accused Israel of violating the terms of the truce with Syria established after the Yom Kippur War. Israel has begun construction of new fortifications on the western side of the UNDOF-controlled buffer zone. We are talking about embankments and ditches up to six meters wide.

Most of the work is being done inside Israeli territory, but some of the fortifications extend several meters into the buffer zone, which has angered the Syrian government. The head of the mission, Bernard Lee, noted that such structures on the border with Gaza could prevent a Hamas attack on Israel, as happened on October 7.

.......

Thus, the construction of new fortifications by Israel caused tension with Syria and criticism from the UN. At the same time, this accusation confirms the importance of border control and the ability to prevent conflicts through appropriate security measures.
