The United States is concerned about a possible escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which could lead to serious consequences.

The White House called this a possible “regional conflagration.” Sean Savett, a spokesman for the National Security Council of the US President Joe Biden administration, expressed his concerns, also noting that “any serious escalation of hostilities that began in parallel with the war in the Gaza Strip could lead to a regional conflagration in which Iran, which supports Hezbollah, and Israel's main ally, the United States, would be involved.”

The American leader is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East, and senior US officials are in constant contact with their Israeli counterparts. Savett stressed that the United States will continue to support Israel's right to self-defense and work to strengthen regional stability.

On the morning of August 25, 2024, Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets and drones into Israel. The IDF responded with its own operation, attacking Lebanon with some 100 aircraft to prevent a larger attack. It was one of the biggest clashes in the border war of the past 10 months.

After three deaths were confirmed in Lebanon and one in Israel, both sides signaled that the retaliatory action was over for now. Diplomatic sources said both sides expressed reluctance to continue the escalation and acknowledged that “attacks had been exchanged.”

The United States did not participate in the Israeli strikes on August 25, but provided intelligence about the upcoming Hezbollah attacks. The information was provided at Israel's request, the U.S. official said.
