Trump and Zelensky may meet in New York next week, reported the US Secretary of State

U.S. President Donald Trump may meet with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky next week in New York as part of the UN General Assembly.

As Senator Marco Rubio told reporters on September 16, 2025, Trump intends to facilitate the conclusion of a peace agreement involving Russian President Putin.

The U.S. Secretary of State clarified that the meeting is expected against the backdrop of the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, which will be held in New York from September 23 to 29, 2025.

“President Trump has already held several phone conversations and meetings with Zelensky, including likely meeting with him again next week in New York,” Rubio noted during his visit to Israel.

UN General Assembly

The anniversary 80th session of the UN General Assembly will begin its work on September 23 and will last until September 29. The session will be chaired by former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

The theme of the session is “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”

More than 100 heads of state will participate in the event, discussing a wide range of global challenges — from security issues to climate change, human rights, and sustainable development.

Traditionally, a High-Level Week will also take place, during which various important events will be held.

Another Meeting of Trump

There is also information that Trump plans to talk with Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the end of this week.

He noted that the negotiations between U.S. and Chinese representatives, held in Europe and concerning trade issues, went “very well.”
