Poland’s Position on the Ukrainian Case
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the extradition of Ukrainian Vladimir Zhuravlev, wanted by Germany for connections to the explosions on the “Nord Stream” pipelines, does not align with the country’s interests. Zhuravlev was arrested on September 30 in Pruszkow based on a warrant.
Tusk stated that the final decision on extradition will be made by the court. Meanwhile, Warsaw’s policy regarding the pipelines remains unchanged. According to Tusk, they make Europe excessively dependent on Russian energy resources.
Tusk’s Words on “Nord Stream”
At a press conference, Tusk noted that the real problem lies not in the destruction of “Nord Stream 2,” but in its construction. He remarked, “The extradition of this citizen to a foreign state is certainly not in Poland’s interest.”
Decision of the Polish Court
The Polish court ruled to extend Zhuravlev’s detention for 40 days while it decides on his extradition to Germany. This is based on a European arrest warrant. The legal proceedings are ongoing.
Comment by the Ukrainian Ambassador
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar stated that Kyiv will not interfere in the country’s decision. “This is a judicial matter. Everything depends on justice. The court must make the appropriate decision,” Bodnar noted.
He added that the interests of the Ukrainian citizen are paramount and emphasized that the embassy and consulate are providing Zhuravlev with the necessary support.
