At the UN Security Council meeting on November 20, Ukraine’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Kristina Hayovyshyn, delivered a tough and extremely clear statement. The US peace plan is open for discussion, but only within the boundaries where Ukrainian sovereignty begins and ends. And these borders, according to her, are inviolable.
Sovereignty is not for sale
Hayovyshyn immediately highlighted the main point: Ukraine will never recognize any temporarily occupied territories by Russia as part of the Russian Federation. She emphasized that the country’s territory is not a subject of bargaining and not an “asset” that can be transferred or exchanged in diplomatic maneuvers.
Another principle is Ukraine’s right to self-defense. Kyiv does not accept conditions that limit the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or impose an artificial reduction of the army and armaments.
Freedom of alliances and protection of identity
According to Hayovyshyn, Ukraine will not allow anyone to dictate with whom to form alliances and what place to occupy in the international security system. She called attempts to undermine Ukrainian identity a direct continuation of aggression.
“The genocidal intent underlying the Russian attack will not go unanswered,” she stated, adding that identity and freedom of choice are part of what Ukrainians have been defending for almost four years.
Cautious readiness for dialogue
Despite the firmness of its position, Ukraine does not close the door to discussing the American plan. Hayovyshyn emphasized that constructive dialogue is possible, but only if the document does not violate the country’s fundamental rights.
Meanwhile, it is known that the proposed plan includes painful points for Kyiv — the de facto surrender of Donbas, halving the army, renouncing certain weapons, and a discussion on the Russian language.
Context that cannot be ignored
For the past four years, the issue of Ukraine has remained at the center of international diplomacy. Putin’s ultimatum at the end of 2021, the full-scale invasion of 2022, and a series of negotiations have all shaped a new political reality. But in this reality, Ukraine remains consistent: no “new world architectures” can question its status and borders.
This is why the current discussions at the UN Security Council are perceived not just as another diplomatic game, but as a moment of truth, where every formulation can determine the future security of Europe. It is such moments that NANews — News of Israel | Nikk.Agency analyzes in detail, emphasizing that Ukraine’s resilience today sets the rules of the game for the entire region.
