The US delegation, led by the President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, will join the talks on a ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of hostages. This was reported by Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti.
Talks in Sharm El Sheikh
At a joint press conference with his German colleague, Abdelatti noted that they had a lengthy conversation with Steve Witkoff, who will soon arrive in Egypt. The White House confirmed that the delegation is led by Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Indirect technical negotiations between Israel and Hamas began on Monday in Sharm El Sheikh. The second day of talks coincides with the anniversary of the October 7 attack.
Peace Plan
At the end of September, the White House presented a 20-point peace plan. It includes a ceasefire, the exchange of hostages, and the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. The plan provides for the creation of a transitional cabinet and the exclusion of Hamas from the political process.
It also proposes the creation of an international body, the “Peace Council,” led by Donald Trump, which will include high-ranking figures, including Tony Blair. This body will be responsible for the development and reconstruction of Gaza.
Prospects for a Peace Agreement
President Trump stated that the US is close to reaching a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas. He is confident in the possibility of ending the conflict.
“We have the support of all Arab and Muslim countries. This specific agreement will bring peace to the Middle East,” Trump noted.
