Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky criticized Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico for threatening to cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine due to his refusal to continue the transit of Russian gas. Zelensky said that such actions could be incitement by Putin and directed against the interests of Ukraine.
The President also noted that Fico's support for Russian aggression is unacceptable and immoral. He reproached the prime minister for failing to provide compensation for the population of Slovakia for the loss of gas from Russia and the loss of income from imported electricity from Ukraine.
Slovakia plays a significant role in supplying electricity to Ukraine, and the Ukrainian government is already working to secure the required volume of electricity with other EU countries. Zelensky called on Fico to respect the rules of the single European energy market and not make arbitrary decisions that could violate European standards.
