Lebanon has seen a series of pager explosions in several areas, including Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and the south of the country. The blasts, which occurred at around 3:30 p.m. local time, were also reported in Damascus, Syria. More than 1,200 people were injured, including hundreds of Hezbollah members, including Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, who suffered minor injuries. Hospitals are overwhelmed and residents are being urged to donate blood. Several deaths have been reported, including the son of Hezbollah MP Ali Ammar.

The explosions were believed to have been caused by a cyberattack: pagers used by Hezbollah militants may have exploded due to malware that caused the devices to overheat. Some members of the group felt the pagers heating up and managed to get rid of them before the explosion.

Israel has not yet claimed responsibility, but an hour and a half after the incident, information was released about the Shin Bet's thwarting of an assassination attempt on a former Israeli military leader. There has been no official comment from Israeli authorities, but senior officials have gathered for discussions in Tel Aviv.
