A scandal has emerged in Bulgaria over the explosions of pagers in Lebanon. Payments for Hezbollah's explosive pagers were made through a Bulgarian company. The Hungarian company BAC received 1.6 million euros for the batch. Norta Global Ltd from Sofia was involved in the sale to Hezbollah. “Bulgarian television reported that the 1.6 million euros related to the transaction passed through Bulgaria and were sent to Hungary,” the investigation notes.
Norta's registered headquarters are in a residential building in the capital, where about 200 other companies are concentrated. Norta's founder, Rinson Jose, lives in Norway. He declined to comment on the pagers and cut the conversation short when asked about the Bulgarian business. The incident is under investigation in both Bulgaria and Norway.
The Taiwanese company says the pager parts are definitely not made in Taiwan. A preliminary investigation by Lebanese authorities found that the devices were already rigged with explosives before they arrived in the country. “A letter sent to the UN Security Council by the Lebanese mission to the United Nations confirmed this information.”
