Israel's permanent representative to the UN, Dan Danon, accused the organization of failing to fulfill its main purpose – to protect the innocent and condemn evil. Danon spoke at a special Israeli event at UN headquarters to mark the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack. He noted that the UN failed to protect the innocent and condemn the evil in connection with the situation in Gaza, where the attackers were not convicted, but were mainly engaged in humanitarian aid for Palestine.

US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield pointed to the negative impact of some Security Council members on the situation in the Middle East, who opposed resolutions condemning the militant group (one of which was blocked by Russia). She noted that “there are those in the Security Council and beyond who do not condemn or even mention Hamas's atrocities.”

Linda Thomas-Greenfield also highlighted attempts by a number of parties to use Hamas to destabilize the Middle East and push the region into broader conflict, including terrorist groups such as the Houthis and Hezbollah. She also accused Iran of seeking to use the current situation to advance its destructive goals.
