What is the film about?

“Budinok “The Word”: A Never-ending Romance” is a full-length feature film directed by Taras Tomenko. The plot is based on real events that took place in the Slovo house, built in Kharkov in 1927. This house was a kind of “ghetto for the intelligentsia”, where famous Ukrainian poets, writers and artists were settled.

The film shows how a house that symbolized artistic recognition became a place of fear, where the artists' every move was controlled by the Stalinist regime. The main character is a young proofreader who dreams of joining the circle of famous writers. However, to achieve his goal, he has to become an informer for the NKVD.
