Russian state media reported that in the military parade in Moscow, dedicated to the ’80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War’, veterans from different countries, including Israel, are expected to participate. This decision has caused a wide resonance as it effectively legitimizes the actions of Putin’s Russia, which continues to destroy peaceful cities in Ukraine, kill its residents, and support terrorist regimes like Iran and other enemies of Israel, which contradicts Israel’s interests.

In a video message, posted on May 6, 2025 on Telegram, Netanyahu stated that ‘Israeli veterans will take part in the May 9 parade in Moscow’.
He emphasized that ‘a large number of Jews during World War II fought against Nazism and made a significant contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany.’
According to him, sending Israeli veterans to Moscow to participate in the parade is ‘the right step, reflecting important historical justice.’

Netanyahu said. However, the participation of veterans in the parade in Moscow puts Israel in a difficult position, as Russia is not only conducting aggression against Ukraine but also continues to support terrorist regimes such as Iran and other terrorists who pose a threat to Israel.
However, many believe that Israel’s participation in the May 9 parade in Moscow is not an act of recognizing historical justice, but an act of legitimizing Putin’s Russia’s aggression. While the Israeli government claims that Israeli veterans ‘decided to participate in the event’, the Russian army continues to destroy peaceful cities in Ukraine, including destroying Jewish communities, and shows no respect for human rights and international law.

‘Today, against the Ukrainian people, one of the victorious nations over Nazism that paid a terrible price for peace and freedom in Europe, a brutal and unprovoked invasion war is being waged. During this aggression, Russian soldiers have committed hundreds of thousands of war crimes, killing 620 and injuring nearly 2,000, deporting at least 20,000 Ukrainian children.’ Executions of civilians, mass graves, rape, looting, detention of civilian hostages, torture and execution of prisoners of war, use of indiscriminate weapons, attacks on densely populated residential areas, energy, civilian infrastructure. The Russian army has committed and continues to commit atrocities in Ukraine, the scale of which Europe has not seen since World War II. It is this army that will march on May 9 on Red Square in Moscow. These people are not liberators of Europe, they are occupiers and war criminals. Marching side by side with them means sharing responsibility for the blood of killed Ukrainian children, civilians, and military personnel, not honoring the victory over Nazism. Russia invites foreign military personnel to participate in the May 9 parade to whitewash its war crimes and justify its aggression. The participation of foreign military personnel in this act is unacceptable and will be regarded by Ukraine as an insult to the memory of the victory over Nazism, the memory of millions of Ukrainian front-line fighters who liberated our country and all of Europe from Nazism eight decades ago.
We urge all foreign governments to refrain from participation of their military personnel in the May 9 parade in Moscow. Especially, this concerns countries that declare neutrality regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine or consistently take a neutral position in international relations. The participation of the military from these countries in the joint parade will directly violate the declared neutrality and will look like support for the aggressor state. We call on all foreign governments and international organizations to respect the victims of World War II and the collective victory over Nazism, which does not justify Russian aggression and atrocities against Ukrainians.’
