What lakes in Ukraine can be called the saltiest?
One of the bright examples is Sivaš or the Putrid Sea, located in the temporarily occupied territory. This lake confidently leads in salinity, reaching levels of up to 350 grams of salt per liter in certain bays. Such concentration even exceeds that of the British Sea, making Sivaš one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. The area of the lake is over 2500 square kilometers, and its mineral composition is quite rich, however, enjoying the filling atmosphere is currently impossible.
In the unoccupied part of the country, the Kuyalnik Estuary in the Odessa region serves as the second saltiest among Ukrainian lakes, where the salinity level reaches 280 grams per liter. This estuary is known for its healing mud and attracts both tourists and scientists.
Another curious place is Kunigunda in the Transcarpathian region, in Solotvyno. This artificial lake, formed after the flooding of a salt mine, has a salinity of up to 200 grams per liter and has also established itself as a popular resort.
It is worth noting the lake in Shchastlyve on the Arabat Spit, where salinity fluctuates between 150 and 200 grams per liter, as well as Solenoe in the Rivne region with a level of up to 100 and Koyashke Lake in Crimea, which can reach an astonishing 350 grams per liter during hot weather when the water evaporates.
Thus, Ukraine can indeed boast a variety of salty bodies of water that have arisen due to geological processes and human activity, often possessing salinity exceeding oceanic levels of 35 grams per liter.
