The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has introduced a new plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip, covering the most important aspects of a peace agreement. This document was presented to the leaders of Arab countries, as reported by the Financial Times.
Content of the Peace Plan
The president’s proposal includes 21 points. Key elements of the plan:
- permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas;
- release of all remaining hostages;
- creation of an international stabilization force in the Gaza territory;
- transfer of temporary administration to a Palestinian committee under the control of an international supervisory body.
Return of Armies
According to the proposal, the Israeli army should return to the positions it held during the ceasefire from January to March. After the arrival of international forces, it is planned to completely leave the sector.
Exclusion of Hamas
It should be noted that Hamas will not be allowed to govern, and the eviction of sector residents is not planned. In anticipation of stabilizing the situation, the participation of Arab and Muslim states in the new mission is expected.
Discussion of the Plan with Israel
As of today, the question remains open as to whether Israel will accept the proposed plan. It is expected that on September 29, Trump will discuss it with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Conversation at the UN General Assembly
During his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, the US leader criticized the recognition of Palestine by several states. This situation was described as a “gift” for Hamas, and Trump emphasized that the group has repeatedly rejected reasonable peace proposals.
Tension in Relations
It is reported that there was a “tense” conversation between Trump and Netanyahu following the Israeli strike on the Hamas leadership office in Doha. The American leader expressed the opinion that some aggressive steps by the Israeli government might contradict US interests in the region.
