President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially announced that his country will join an international working group that will monitor the implementation of the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas. On October 9, the agency Reuters reported this, emphasizing that Ankara intends not just to observe, but to play an active role in controlling the compliance with agreements on the ground.

“God willing, Turkey will participate in the working group that will monitor the implementation of the agreement on the ground,” Erdogan said during a speech in Ankara, adding that the country is ready to contribute to the “guarantee of peace and security” in the Gaza Strip.

Control over peace and search for the missing

High-ranking sources in the Turkish government clarify: Ankara will become part of a joint operational group with Israel, the USA, Qatar, and Egypt. This group will be engaged in searching for the bodies of deceased hostages, whose whereabouts remain unknown after the attacks and subsequent battles in Gaza.

However, as Reuters notes, it is still unclear whether this is the same initiative Erdogan spoke about or if these are different structures — possibly part of a broader concept of “stabilization forces” proposed by US President Donald Trump as part of his peace plan to end the war in Gaza.

Trump’s plan and “difficult questions” of the future

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that after the official ceasefire, the international community should move to the next stage — solving “more difficult” tasks: ensuring security, humanitarian stabilization, and developing post-war scenarios for the sector’s development.

Fidan emphasized that Ankara intends to “do everything to ensure that peace in Gaza is sustainable, not temporary.”

New geopolitical alignment

The inclusion of Turkey in the mechanism for controlling the peace agreement adds additional dynamics to the process. Ankara is the only country in the region capable of maintaining direct dialogue with both Israel and Hamas, as well as with the USA. This makes it a unique mediator between the parties, where mutual distrust still remains high.

Experts note that Turkey’s participation in the mission strengthens its position as one of the key actors in the Middle East. After years of diplomatic cooling, Ankara seeks to regain its status as a regional power capable of influencing the balance between Western allies and the Islamic world.

Geopolitical significance for the region

Observers see in these steps not only an attempt by Turkey to secure its role as a mediator but also an aspiration to create a new security architecture in the region. If the mission succeeds, Ankara could become the main coordinator of international efforts to restore the Gaza Strip — from humanitarian logistics to infrastructure programs.

What’s next

The question remains open — how exactly this international group will function, and what degree of influence Turkey will receive in its structure. But one thing is clear: Ankara’s participation gives the agreement additional political weight and signals that the region is entering a new phase — a phase of controlled peace.

.......

According to observers, Turkey is now becoming not just a witness, but one of the key architects of post-war settlement in the Middle East — and in this, as Erdogan noted, “there is a historical mission of a country that has always been a bridge between East and West.”
