Biden signs scaled-down deal with Saudi Arabia without mention of Israel

Negotiations on military cooperation between the United States and Saudi Arabia have stalled since October 7. A less ambitious defense deal without normalization with Israel is now being discussed. The goal is to conclude it before the end of the Biden administration.

The Saudi side sets the condition for the creation of two states before conducting further negotiations with Israel. Anti-Israel rhetoric is intensifying, and without this normalization the agreement will not pass Congress.

The new treaty provides for joint military exercises and defense cooperation against Iran. It will also strengthen ties between American and Saudi defense companies, while the United States will increase its military presence in Riyadh.
