All those killed in Hezbollah strike on Majdal Shams playground were children, Israel's heaviest casualty since October 7

The IDF Spokesperson's Office said the rocket Hezbollah fired at Majd al-Shams was an Iranian Falak-1 240mm caliber rocket capable of carrying up to 50 kg of explosives over a distance of 10 km.

Majdal Shams has published the names of 11 children and teenagers out of the 12 killed on July 27 when a Hezbollah rocket directly hit a Druze village in the northern Golan Heights. The funerals of the dead will take place at the local cemetery at 11:00 on Sunday, July 28.

Among the dead:

  • Fajr Liet Abu-Saleh, 16 years old
  • Amir Rabia Abu-Saleh, 16 years old
  • Hazem Akram Abu-Saleh, 15 years old
  • John Wadia Ibrahim, 13 years old
  • Izil Nashat Ayoub, 12 years old
  • Finis Adham Safadi, 11 years old
  • Yezan Naif Abu-Saleh, 12 years old
  • Alma Ayman Fakhr Aladdin, 11 years old
  • Naji Taher Halabi, 11 years old
  • Milar Madad Al-Shaar, 10 years old
  • Nazem Fakhr Saab, 14 years old, from the village of Ein Qiniya.

The incident was the worst in northern Israel since the military confrontation began on October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah supported Hamas, which carried out a massacre in southern Israel.

The IDF claims the Hezbollah rocket that killed 12 children was detected after launch and a warning siren sounded for 20 seconds. However, locals say the siren only sounded a few seconds before the explosion. The Druze expressed outrage that the IDF air defense did not shoot down the rocket, as is usually done in neighboring areas of the Galilee. The military explains this by the terrain in the Hermon foothills and the fact that the rocket was flying at low altitude.

The Iranian-made Falak-1 missile, first used by Hezbollah in January 2024, was launched from a jeep and flew at a low trajectory, making it difficult for the Iron Dome system to intercept.

As of the evening of July 27, 2024, 12 children and adolescents were reported killed, up to 34 wounded, including 17 children, in a rocket attack on the village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights as a result of a direct hit from a rocket that exploded on a football field near a children's playground in Majd al-Shams.

The Security Cabinet will meet on July 28, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the Kiriya government complex in Tel Aviv to discuss preparations for a response.

The victims were children and boys aged 10 to 20. They were playing football at the time. The photo from the scene of the tragedy shows charred items and children's bicycles.

Will this be the red line that is crossed? White House sources: We expect restraint from Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces officially announces that, according to its information, the attack on children in the Israeli town of Majdal Shams was carried out by Hezbollah. However, Hezbollah itself denies its involvement and claims that it did not kill the children. Russia, Iran and their various proxies have something in common – they are all child killers, and specifically cowardly child killers.

After denying Hezbollah's responsibility for the Majdal Shams rocket launch, the IDF provides evidence: An analysis of the IDF's operational systems shows that the launch was carried out from an area north of the village of Sheba in southern Lebanon

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while in the United States, was briefed on the details of the Majdal Shams incident and held consultations on security matters. Sources say that the possibility of launching a large-scale military operation to restore security in the north of the country is being considered.

The Hezbollah attack was the worst and bloodiest incident in northern Israel since the war began. Israel has repeatedly warned Hezbollah that patience is running out and that military action would have to be taken if necessary.

Israel has made it clear that it prefers a political settlement, but Hezbollah rejects any negotiations with Israel until a ceasefire is reached in the Gaza Strip.

The head of the Mevo'ot HaHermon regional council said:

“Today, all the red lines have been crossed. The government must understand that the support we gave it to do its job is over. The IDF must put pressure on the military-political cabinet to take action. Not to kill another motorcyclist with a drone, but to cut off the heads of snakes and get anywhere, and we know how to do it.”

Majdal Shams — is the largest of the four Druze settlements in the Golan Heights, the highest city in Israel. The settlement is ancient — it was founded in 1595 by several Druze families. The population is about 12 thousand, almost all of them have relatives in Syria or Lebanon.

Hezbollah will deny its involvement because the tragedy could provoke Druze unrest in Lebanon itself, where voices against Hezbollah rule are already becoming increasingly vocal.

And for Israel, this is a test. The authorities have repeatedly spoken about “red lines” in the north. It seems that they cannot be redder.

In light of recent events in the Gaza Strip, Defense Minister Yoav Galant assessed the operational situation with Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar.

The Israeli military has provided its first operational analysis of the attack that took place today in the friendly village of Majdal Shams in northern Israel. The IDF estimates that the rocket was launched from an area north of the village of Shebaa.

This is southern Lebanon, territory controlled by Hezbollah, in violation of a UN resolution. The IDF has no doubt that this terrorist group was involved in the shelling.

The distance from the launch site to the center of Majdal Shams is only 11.5 kilometers as the crow flies, so the air raid siren sounded before the missile exploded.

Photos from the scene show that the concrete shelter is located next to a soccer field and a playground that were hit by a missile. If the teenage years had been longer, children and young people would have had time to run to the shelter and escape.
