For the first time in aviation history, a record fine has been set for discrimination against Jews.

In 2022, Lufthansa received a $4 million fine for violating the rights of 128 ultra-Orthodox passengers. The incident occurred in May when a group of American Jews were flying to Budapest with a layover in Frankfurt. Some passengers refused to wear a mask, citing the lack of necessity in the United States.

Flight attendants turned away 128 Jews from their connecting flight because they refused to wear masks. The decision was made without taking into account the specific circumstances and who exactly refused to wear a mask. As a result, passengers had to purchase new tickets due to the airline's refusal.

After the victims filed a complaint of discrimination based on their appearance, Lufthansa paid compensation in the amount of 21 thousand dollars to each. After a lengthy trial, the airline was ordered to pay a fine of $4 million for violating the civil rights of passengers.
