The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) nations have warned that events in the Middle East could lead to a wider conflict that would benefit no one, after meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Reuters reports. The leaders worry that “actions and counter-reactions” could trigger a dangerous spiral of violence. They say these actions could drag the entire Middle East into a wider regional conflict with unpredictable consequences.

Therefore, the G7 foreign ministers are calling for an end to the destructive cycle and stressing that no country will benefit from further escalation in the Middle East. At the moment, according to official data, there are about 40 thousand American troops in the Middle East, although, according to media reports, this number could reach 50 thousand.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant has announced a “new phase” of the war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, focusing on the northern front. This follows multiple explosions of Hezbollah pagers and radios. The White House expects further escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which could lead to a full-scale war between them. Already on September 23, the Pentagon announced that the United States was sending additional troops to the Middle East amid an escalation between Israel and Hezbollah forces based in southern Lebanon.

These developments in the Middle East have raised concerns among G7 foreign ministers, who are calling for an end to the growing conflict in the region. “Actions and counter-reactions risk fueling this dangerous spiral of violence and dragging the entire Middle East into a wider regional conflict with unimaginable consequences,” they stressed. It is therefore important to urgently take steps to peacefully resolve the situation in the Middle East.
