On the evening of September 27, 2024, an Israeli airstrike occurred on Beirut, presumably aimed at eliminating Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
In response to this, Hezbollah shelled several settlements in northern Israel, including Safed, Kramiel, Sakhnin and others. The first wave of rocket attacks occurred from 22:00 to 22:24.
In an hour, about 65 rockets were fired at Israeli cities. Hezbollah officials said it was in response to attacks by Israel and in defense of Lebanon and its people. As a result of the shelling, a resident of the city of Safed was slightly injured and was hospitalized.
Following the attack on Beirut, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati cut short his visit to New York and returned to the country for an emergency government meeting. The situation in the region remains tense and further developments are cause for concern.
