The Honorary Consulate of Israel in the Western Region of Ukraine has resumed its work in Lviv. Representatives of the Jewish community of Chernivtsi attended the event, having received a personal invitation from the leadership of the consulate.
The history of the consulate dates back to 2015, when it was first opened to support and develop diplomatic and cultural ties between Israel and the western region of Ukraine. However, in February 2022, due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the consulate was temporarily closed. Now, more than two years later, it has reopened, demonstrating the continued close relations between Ukraine and Israel.
The event opened with a welcoming speech read by the Deputy Honorary Consul, Adel Dianova, who is also the head of the Lviv Jewish community “Teiva”. The Honorary Consul of Israel in the Western region of Ukraine, Oleg Vishnyakov, could not come for a good reason.

The head of the Jewish community of Chernivtsi, Shapsa Averbukh, gave a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of the resumption of work of the consulate at this time. He noted that now Jews and other interested persons can contact the consulate in Lviv, and not go to other countries to resolve their issues, as was the case for almost two and a half years since the beginning of the full-scale war. Averbukh added that the opening of the consulate symbolizes that the enemy was not able to win, and life in Ukraine goes on.
The event ended with a concert featuring local Jewish musical groups, dancers and vocalists. The finale was the performance of the national anthems of Ukraine and Israel. After the celebrations, the delegation from Chernivtsi discussed state projects with representatives of Lviv Jewish organizations, some of which have already been successfully implemented in Chernivtsi.
