On January 27, the world recalls the victims of one of the worst tragedies in the history of mankind – the Holocaust.
On this day, the official ceremony in Babi Yar was held in Ukraine, in which President Vladimir Zelensky, the main rabbis of Ukraine, representatives of the diplomatic corps and public figures took part.
The Holocaust recalls that hatred and violence are able to revive if humanity forgets the lessons of the past. Modern events, such as Russian aggression against Ukraine and terrorist attacks on Israel, show that evil continues to threaten the world, and the fight against it remains a common task.

For Israel and Ukraine, this is a lesson about the need for a joint struggle against these threats in order to protect freedom, peace and human dignity.
We must all fight for the sake of life and not forget that indifference is a fertilizer for evil. We must overcome hatred that gives rise to bullying and murder. We must not allow unconsciousness. And this is the mission of everyone to do everything so that evil does not win.
Holocaust: tragedy lessons for modernity
The Holocaust has become a symbol of horror and cruelty that humanity encountered during the Second World War. Six million Jews, including 1.5 million killed in modern Ukraine, became victims of the Nazi regime.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky emphasized the importance of the memory of the Holocaust:
“On January 27, the world honors the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. It was a purposeful attempt to destroy the whole people, to erase its culture and memory. We must fight hatred and not to allow indifference, which becomes the ground for evil. ”

Babi Yar is one of the most tragic places of the Holocaust. Here in the fall of 1941, more than 33 thousand Jews were killed. Memorial measures organized by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine and the National Historical and Memorial Reserve “Babiy Yar” gathered people from different parts of the world.
The main rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman noted:
“The Holocaust is a terrible crime against humanity that left the wound in everyone's heart. But evil can manifest itself again and again, as we saw on October 7, 2023 in Israel, when Hamas terrorists killed civilians. This is a common pain of the Jewish people and everyone who fights for freedom. ”

The ceremony in Babi Yar recalled that hatred and violence continue to threaten humanity. Russian aggression against Ukraine and the attack of terrorists on Israel emphasize the relevance of the Holocaust lessons.
The main rabbi of Ukraine emphasized:
“Today we pray for the souls of innocently killed during the Holocaust and for the victims of modern wars in Ukraine, Israel and the world. The memory of the tragedies should become our guide in the struggle for the world. ”

The International Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust Victims was established by the UN General Assembly in 2005. It is celebrated on the day of the release of the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27, 1945.
