On October 5, 2024, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi offered to support ceasefire efforts in Lebanon subject to Israel ending its military campaign in Gaza. He spoke in Beirut on the first visit by an Iranian official to the Lebanese capital since the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike.

Araqchi stressed the importance of using diplomatic opportunities to support Lebanon and confront the Zionist occupation regime. While the Iranian minister met with Lebanese officials and Hezbollah representatives in Beirut, Israel continued to launch airstrikes against Hezbollah leadership.

Iran is threatening to attack Israel's energy infrastructure, threatening to hit power plants and oil refineries if Israel strikes Iranian territory in an expected retaliatory strike in the coming days.

The Iranian actions sparked protests from Israel and tensions in the region. Hezbollah remains at the center of the conflict with Israel, while Iran continues to play an active role in regional politics.
