French President Emmanuel Macron is calling on Europeans to take responsibility and do what no one else will do for them. After Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election, Macron discussed with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz the need for a “European strategic awakening.” He stressed that European countries must take greater responsibility and refuse the temptation to be every man for himself. Macron also spoke of working to create a more united and sovereign Europe in a new environment, working with the United States.
German Chancellor Scholz also expressed confidence in continued cooperation between Germany and the United States for the sake of prosperity and freedom on both sides of the Atlantic. Trump, having collected the required 270 electoral votes, has already declared himself the winner of the presidential race. In his victory speech, he said his goal as president would be to “stop all the wars in the world,” although he did not directly mention Ukraine.
Emmanuel Macron calls on Europeans to have a coordinated strategy and maintain sovereignty in Europe. Germany and France are going to work together to create a more sovereign and united Europe in a new environment.
