Why do Russians defecate right in the homes of Ukrainians, who want to say this and what does this indicate, writes a Russian oppositionist journalist Andrey Malgin in the column for “Radio Liberty.
“Piles of stinking human shit were everywhere: not only on the floor, but also on tables, in beds, in dishes. Moreover, all these houses had well-equipped toilets. Use it! But no. And this was the case everywhere from where Putin’s army left,” recalls Malgin.
According to him, many Ukrainians explained this “phenomenon” by a simple lack of culture. But the author believes that everything is much more complicated.
Andrey Malgin cites a number of historical documents indicating that the habit of Russians to crap anywhere to spite more successful people has been known for a long time.
In 1919, in St. Petersburg, there was a congress of the “village poor”.
Several thousand peasants came from the northern provinces of Russia, and hundreds of them were placed in the Winter Palace of the Romanovs. When the congress ended and these people left, it turned out that they had not only polluted all the baths of the palace, but also a huge number of the most valuable Sevres, Saxon and Oriental vases, using them as chamber pots. This was not done out of necessity – the palace latrines were in order, the water supply was working.

The journalist cites the memoirs of a Soviet writer, a veteran of the Soviet-German war Yuri Nagibin. In one of the German houses, he saw broken wires, broken furniture, and books scattered on the floor.

The Soviet “intellectual” admitted that at first he did not understand why he would do this, but then he tried it himself and liked it.
Philosopher Mikhail Epshtein in his work “Russian Antiworld” he devoted space to this amazing passion. Citing a quote from Gorky, he argues with the author: a Russian person shits in a vase not because the sense of beauty is alien to him, and especially not because he has an aversion to beauty. Epstein believes that the old man in Russia is still tightly connected to the land. “Feces is the substance of the earth,” and “a person returns to it what has been digested in it, the dead part of himself.”
Polish writer Stanislav Lem explained the trashing of houses in Europe by Russians like this:
“With this they took revenge not only on the Germans (in the end, to others!)…, but they also took revenge on the whole world outside their prison with revenge, the most vile of all possible: after all, they shit everything – no animals demonstrate such, so to speak, excremental cruelty that the Russians demonstrated, slaughtering and filling with their excrement destroyed salons, hospital halls, bidets, closets, shitting on books, carpets, altars … “
Malgin noticed that among the numerous synonyms for the word “defecate” in the dictionary there is an unexpected one: “to lay aside a larva.” What will grow from it?
“In our context, this is a surprisingly accurate definition. Couldn't have said it better. The Russian world lays larvae everywhere it goes.”notes the journalist.
According to him, the Russian occupiers feel their “great mission” – the destruction of civilization. After all, wherever Russians go, “life is degrading, laws are being replaced by “concepts,” the economy is being simplified to a medieval level, garbage dumps are growing in place of flowering gardens, and art and culture are dying.”
This is evidenced by the occupied and destroyed cities of Ukraine, as well as the once thriving resorts of Abkhazia, says Malgin.
A natural sense of self-preservation should have told the peoples where the Russian world had come with arms in hand: stop it! The coming Russian world speaks out clearly and with utmost conviction. But it’s easier to close your eyes, plug your ears and nose, right?
