Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky expressed “concern” at a UN Security Council meeting in New York over the political assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. He stressed that such actions could seriously worsen the situation in the Middle East and undermine efforts to reach a peace agreement in Gaza.

In turn, the Israeli representative spoke of the hypocrisy of discussing the situation at the request of Iran, which he called the largest sponsor of terrorism. Comparing the approach to eliminating Haniyeh with the elimination of Osama bin Laden, he expressed his sharp criticism and thanked other countries for their support.

The Iranian representative, in turn, called Haniyeh's murder an act of state terrorism and demanded that measures be taken against Israel. He expressed his government's dissatisfaction and called on the international community to take the necessary actions to punish the criminals.
