A tree that was discovered in the Judean Desert in the 1980s has been resurrected by scientists. The seeds of this tree are over 1000 years old and indicate a genus of trees mentioned in the Bible. This tree was named “Sheba” and belongs to the genus Commiphora. In 14 years, the tree has grown to three meters and scientists now have the opportunity to study its characteristics.

Sheba is believed to be a descendant of trees that grew in the Southern Levant region, including modern-day Israel, Palestine and Jordan. Research has refuted the idea that this tree is the balm of the Jews mentioned in antiquity. Instead, scholars suggest that Sheba may be related to the biblical “tsori”, which was used for healing.

Sheba seeds were found in a cave in the Jordan Rift Valley of the Dead Sea. Perhaps they got there thanks to animals or were preserved by people for the reintroduction of a valuable species. This tree contains various compounds that promote wound healing and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Scientists have also begun to explore the possibility of life on Mars, suggesting that it could be hidden deep in the planet's crust.
