GOLDA, the popular ice cream chain, has created six new flavors to honor returnees from six different countries to celebrate their culture and traditions. These flavors include:

  2. Ethiopian coffee — Ethiopia
  3. Peanut butter and jam — USA
  4. Chocolate with mint — Great Britain
  5. Kyiv cake – Ukraine
  6. Salty dulce de leche — Argentina

This approach allows new Israeli citizens to feel part of the community, seeing that their cultural values and traditions are respected and celebrated.

NAnews We are pleased to share details about this exciting event highlighting the unique cultural ties between the countries.

A taste that unites Israel and Ukraine

“Kiev cake” is not just a sweet, but a real cultural symbol, recreated in the form of ice cream for Ukrainian repatriates. This famous cake, decorated with meringue and nuts, was a great way to show respect for those who left their homes in search of safety and a new life.

“Kiev cake is not just a dessert, it is a symbol of Ukraine, which will now be available in Israel. Thanks to the GOLDA network, we feel like we are part of this society,” comments one of the repatriates from Ukraine.

Israeli support for repatriates from Ukraine

This year alone, more than 30,000 people have arrived in Israel as part of the aliyah program, including a significant number of Ukrainians. Repatriation programs in Israel are supported not only by government services, but also by the private sector, which in this case is represented by GOLDA. As the company notes, the idea for the new flavor arose from the desire to create a “delicious connection” with the historical homeland of the new citizens of Israel.

Features of the taste of “Kyiv cake” in the context of Israeli culture

GOLDA didn't just create Kyiv-inspired ice cream; they tried to convey the traditional taste of this cake as accurately as possible. In the dessert you can feel notes of nuts and the sweet taste of meringue – the very ingredients that make Kiev cake special.

“We are seen separately from repatriates from the former USSR, which is very important. GOLDA emphasizes the uniqueness of our contribution, rather than simply putting us in a general category,” says one of the Ukrainian repatriates.

Cultural integration and new initiatives

The GOLDA project emphasizes the importance of cultural integration. Israeli society has always been diverse, and such events help strengthen ties between new and established citizens. It is important that GOLDA celebrates the unique contribution of each of the new citizens, paying tribute not only to historical traditions, but also symbolizing friendship and support in difficult times.

Unique experience and long-awaited success

Aliyah Day is not only an official holiday, but also an opportunity to emphasize the importance of each new citizen for the state. Ice cream “Kiev Cake” became a symbol of the warm welcome that the Israelis prepared for Ukrainian repatriates. As the organizers of the event note, such projects help people feel part of society and proudly represent their culture.

“Kyiv cake”

“Kyiv cake” is a famous dessert produced by the Kyiv confectionery factory and is one of the symbols of the city of Kyiv. It is based on two layers of a protein-nut mixture, soaked in butter cream. The cake is decorated with nut crumbs and various cream patterns on the surface, which gives it a characteristic and recognizable appearance.

This dessert was first created in 1956, but only in 1973 two confectioners – Ganna Kurilo and Galina Fastovets-Kalinovskaya – received an author's certificate for the recipe from the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR. Over time, the recipe for “Kyiv cake” was improved: they began to add hazelnuts to the cakes, and then they tried to use peanuts and cashews. However, due to their high cost, the factory decided to focus on hazelnuts.

The packaging of the cake is also remarkable – a round box with the image of chestnut branches that symbolize Kyiv, and two characters in the form of cheerful chestnuts, which makes the cake an even more recognizable and symbolic souvenir for city guests.

NAnews will continue to highlight initiatives aimed at supporting immigrants and preserving cultural traditions in Israel.
