The European Union's top foreign and security policy official, Josep Borrell, said the EU supports Lebanon during the Israeli strikes and is ready to provide 200 million euros to the Lebanese armed forces. He announced this during his visit to the country, which took place against the backdrop of a tense situation. Borrell noted that this is his third visit to Lebanon this year.
Lebanon is on the brink of collapse due to the war between Israel and Hezbollah, as well as airstrikes on Lebanese cities including Beirut and Baalbek. Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 3,500 people, Borrell said, triple the number killed in the 2006 Lebanon war. Another 15 thousand people were injured.
“As the European Union, we support the Lebanese people, the Lebanese army and Lebanese institutions. We are ready to allocate 200 million euros to the Lebanese armed forces,” Borrell emphasized. The current head of European diplomacy ended his mandate in Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Middle East and Lebanon.
