The former NATO Secretary General and UK Defense Minister Lord George Robertson urged the British to prepare for possible military conflicts. The speech took place at the Wigtown Book Festival, where the politician suggested that every household seriously consider their security.

Preparation for a Potential Threat

Robertson notes that citizens should “move away from peaceful thinking” and stock up on necessary resources. In particular, he recommended having a supply of candles, flashlights, water, and battery-powered radios. This is important to ensure readiness in the event of war or large-scale power outages.

“We are not prepared enough, not insured enough, we are under attack and not safe. It’s relentless,” he said at the festival, confidentially emphasizing the importance of personal responsibility for security.

Robertson also cited Norway as an example, where the population regularly receives instructions on actions in emergency situations, which should be taken into account in the UK as well.

Threat from Russia and Its Allies

The politician expressed serious concerns about the alliance between Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un, characterizing this cooperation as “a combination to be feared.” According to him, it should be expected that none of these leaders will change their behavior anytime soon.

He emphasized that the UK is already under constant cyberattacks.

“Can it be considered a coincidence that Jaguar Land Rover, Waitrose, and Harrods were attacked simultaneously? We are under fire – these are not explosions, these are cyberattacks,” he added.

Commenting on the country’s defense capability, Robertson compared it to Israel’s “Iron Dome” system, stating that Britain does not have similar protection and needs to review its security methods.

Europe’s Hybrid Threats

The Western world is beginning to realize the real threats, particularly in light of the invasion of Russian drones. In Copenhagen, during a week-long meeting, the creation of a “drone wall” — a system of radars and sensors similar to the Israeli one — was discussed. Currently, such a system is absent, and the UK’s defense is primarily provided by the Air Force and several destroyers.
