US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin held a telephone conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant regarding the situation between Jerusalem and the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

Austin called for diplomacy, Major General Pat Ryder said in a statement released by the Pentagon on Friday, Sept. 20. The Pentagon chief expressed concern about the growing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

Austin stressed the importance of finding a diplomatic solution that would allow residents of both countries to return home safely. They also discussed continuing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza to return all hostages held by Hamas. Ryder's statement noted that Austin reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to Israel's security.

On September 20, Hezbollah terrorists fired about 150 rockets at northern Israel, which was responded to by targeted air strikes by the Israeli army.
