The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission recorded 376 cases of war-related sexual violence in Ukraine from February 24, 2022 to August 31, 2024, affecting both men and women, girls and boys.

The UN stressed that conflict-related sexual violence is a violation of international law.
“Preventing this type of violence and holding perpetrators to account is a shared responsibility based on States’ human rights obligations. Survivors of CSSV (conflict-related sexual violence) need comprehensive support for recovery, including support from the wider community,” the UN noted.
The organization reported that in Ukraine, against the backdrop of war, the “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” campaign is starting.
“The campaign brings people together to speak out against gender-based violence, a topic that has been silenced for too long… The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign is a time to strengthen our solidarity with survivors of conflict-related sexual violence,” it said. message.
In October, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Violations in Ukraine noted in its report that the Russian government systematically tortures Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians, including using sexual violence as a form of torture, all of which are crimes against humanity.
The Office of the Prosecutor General told Radio Liberty in early November that based on the revealed facts of sexual violence in the occupied territories of the cities of Kyiv, Chernigov, Kherson, Kharkov and Nikolaev regions, 59 Russian military personnel were informed of suspicion, and 27 indictments against 36 persons were sent to court.
