The UN secretary-general condemned the “escalation” of fighting between Yemen's Houthis and Israel, calling the strikes on Sanaa airport “particularly worrying.” This was reported in a statement by the press secretary of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. The organization noted that the airstrikes resulted in numerous casualties, including at least three deaths and dozens of wounded. A UN humanitarian representative was also injured during the airport shelling.

According to the report, Israeli aircraft attacked the infrastructure of Sana'a airport, which the Houthis allegedly use for military purposes. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “the military will continue to operate against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen after the attack on Tel Aviv.”

The Houthis have been regularly attacking foreign vessels they say are linked to Israel in the Arabian Sea or the Bab al-Mandeb Strait since October last year. Two ships were sunk and several more damaged. The Houthis also managed to shoot down several US surveillance drones. The UN Secretary-General emphasizes that international law, including humanitarian law, must always be respected and calls on everyone to respect and protect civilians and infrastructure.
