This was stated by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk on August 15, 2024 in an interview with journalist Nikolai Veresen.
“Israel has expanded cooperation with Ukraine, including military technology, after October 7 (the Hamas attack on Israel – Ed.),” he noted.
As a result, Israel decided to step up cooperation with Ukraine to protect its interests. According to Korniychuk, when Ukraine becomes a priority for Israel, they begin to remember the requests from the Ukrainian authorities. One of these interests was the annual trip of Hasidim to Uman.
Noting that about 30% of the Israeli government is made up of religious politicians, the ambassador said that they have a significant influence on the prime minister's decisions. Therefore, each trip by Hasidim requires careful preparation and telephone conversations at the highest level.
Korniychuk emphasized that Israeli President Isaac Herzog is very concerned about the situation in Ukraine and even made his first official visit to Kyiv.
