A report by the Ukrainian “Yedini Novyny” tells how a new underground hospital protected from air strikes was opened in Israel with the participation of Ukrainian doctors. This measure is part of the preparation of Israel's civilian infrastructure for possible missile and drone strikes from Iran, Syria or Lebanon.
In particular, an underground section was set up in the Rambam hospital in Haifa, where training for medical personnel was conducted. Ukrainian Yuri Khomchuk, one of the hospital's doctors, gave journalists a tour of the new department created for emergency situations. As the author points out, “in fact, this is the world's largest ultra-modern underground hospital, capable of fully treating up to 2,000 patients in autonomous mode for three days, while in total it can accommodate up to 8,000 people.”
Khomchuk noted that the underground medical facility has everything necessary for both patients and staff: “It has its own operating room, intensive care unit, and resuscitation unit. There is even a kindergarten for the staff's children.”
The hospital is part of Israel's comprehensive preparations for a possible escalation of the conflict, highlighting the importance of protecting civilian infrastructure in today's environment.
