The US and its allies are asking Iran and Israel “not to make things worse.” Washington's support for Jerusalem will continue, Blinken said.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said his country, along with allies in the Middle East and beyond, had conveyed a message to Israel and Iran about the need not to escalate the conflict in the region. He stressed that the US continues to work to stabilize the situation and is ready to defend Israel from terrorist attacks if the conflict does escalate.

Blinken noted that diplomatic efforts had reached consensus that the conflict should not be escalated, but stressed that further attacks could escalate the conflict and increase the risk of unintended consequences.

The Secretary of State called on regional countries to analyse the situation, understand the risks and make decisions that help reduce tensions rather than increase them.
