Publications by the Ukrainian-Jewish Zustrich (UJE) project and the Tkuma Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies shed light on the long and difficult history of relations between the Ukrainian and Jewish peoples. As part of the 2024 Lviv BookForum, a presentation of books was held that revealed the cultural, historical and literary aspects of Ukrainian-Jewish ties.

These experts not only presented the books, but also discussed in detail their impact on the perception of Ukrainian-Jewish relations. According to the “Ukrainian-Jewish Zustricha”:

“Teaching history is the basis for mutual understanding and avoiding repeating the tragedies of the past.”

Modern textbooks and their role

One of the significant aspects of the events was the display of new history textbooks developed by the project partners – the Orion Educational Center and the Tkuma Institute. These textbooks, as noted by the Ukrainian-Jewish Zustrich, help to understand complex issues of Ukrainian-Jewish relations, focusing on the accessibility and accuracy of the presentation of historical facts.

The new textbooks have already received positive feedback from Ukrainian teachers seeking to instill in young people a deep understanding of history.

The Importance of Memory Preservation

The Ukrainian-Jewish Zustrich project and the Tkuma Institute continue active work to preserve the memory of the tragic events of the Holocaust, emphasizing that awareness of historical truth helps to resist genocide and tragedies in the present. Particular attention is paid to educating future generations in the spirit of mutual respect and cooperation.
