US President Joe Biden on November 18, 2024 called on G20 leaders to increase pressure on Hamas, which the US and EU consider a terrorist organization, to cease fire with Israel, as he promised to “keep pushing” for a deal in the final weeks before Donald Trump returns to White House.
“I ask everyone here to increase pressure on Hamas, which is rejecting this deal at this time,” Biden said in Rio de Janeiro.
He also repeated his calls for Israel to limit civilian casualties in the Gaza war, which he launched following the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
“Israel has the right to defend itself after the worst mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust. But the way he defends himself… matters a lot,” Biden said, as quoted by AFP.
