The Ukrainian women’s basketball team announced the roster for the decisive matches of the first stage of the EuroBasket-2027 qualification. The list of players includes a representative from the Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Tetyana Yurkevichus, one of the notable legionnaires of the Ukrainian team this season.
The March games will be key for the distribution of places in the group and will determine the chances of the Ukrainian team to continue the fight for a place in the final part of EuroBasket-2027.
Where and when the Ukrainian team will play
Team gathering and nominal home match
According to the Ukrainian Basketball Federation, the team, led by head coach Yevhen Murzin, will begin a preparatory camp on March 7 in Riga. The capital of Latvia will serve as a temporary venue for the nominal home match of the Ukrainian team.
On March 11, Ukraine will meet with the Montenegro team. The game is scheduled to start at 19:00 Kyiv time. This match is considered by the coaching staff as one of the defining ones in the fight to exit the group.
In the second game window of the qualification, Ukrainian basketball players will continue their away series:
On March 14, the team will play against Bulgaria in Plovdiv, and on March 17, they will play a match in Baku against the Azerbaijan team.
Such a geography of meetings reflects the current realities of Ukrainian sports, where national teams are forced to play some matches outside the country.
The roster of the Ukrainian team for Euro-2027 qualification
Legionnaires from Europe and a representative from Israel
The coaching staff approved an expanded team roster, which includes players from clubs in various European championships. Among them is the team leader Alina Iagupova (Mersin, Turkey), as well as basketball players playing in Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
Ukrainian fans paid special attention to the inclusion of Tetyana Yurkevichus, representing the Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva. Her stable performances in the Israeli championship allowed her to secure a place in the national team before the decisive stage of qualification.
The full list of players is as follows:
Alina Iagupova, Myriam Uro-Nile, Khrystyna Filevych, Tetyana Yurkevichus, Olena Boiko, Khrystyna Kulesha, Olga Alekseichyk, Anzhelika Lyashko, Daria Kononuchenko, Karina Panchuk, Anastasia Kovtun, Yulia Gutevich, Serafima Tikhaya, and Polina Tupalo.
Such an international roster demonstrates how integrated Ukrainian women’s basketball is into European championships and professional leagues.
In the sports context, the participation of players performing in Israel also underscores the strong ties between the Ukrainian and Israeli sports communities — a topic regularly covered by the editorial team of NAnews — Israel News | Nikk.Agency, following the successes of Ukrainian athletes in Israeli clubs.
Tournament standings and chances to advance further
After the first qualification window, the Ukrainian team occupies second place in its group, having two wins in three matches played. This keeps real chances for continuing the fight for participation in the European Championship.
According to the tournament regulations, the next stage of qualification is reached by the two best teams from each group, as well as several teams in third places that showed the best results among all quartets.
That is why the March meetings are essentially decisive: a successful performance will allow the Ukrainian team to secure a place in the passing zone and get closer to the final stage of EuroBasket-2027.
For Murzin’s team, the upcoming games are not only a fight for tournament points but also a test of the updated roster, in which basketball players playing for clubs across Europe and in Israel play an important role.
