Axios cited three U.S. and Israeli officials as saying strikes on Israeli territory were possible. U.S. General Michael Kurilla, who coordinates U.S. forces in the Middle East, arrived in the region on August 3 to prepare for a possible attack from Iran.

According to the publication, the general's trip was planned before the escalation of the situation between Israel, Iran and Hezbollah. It is noted that he may use the visit to mobilize the international and regional coalition that helped Israel in April. US and Israeli officials expect an Iranian attack, believing that the actions will be similar to the April attack, but may be larger in scale and involve Hezbollah.

On July 27, a Hezbollah rocket attack was reported on a soccer field in Israel, killing more than 10 people and injuring 30 more. On July 31, Hamas reported the assassination of its leader in Tehran, to which Iran threatened a “severe response.” In response to Iran's threat to attack Israel, the United States is preparing to send additional combat aircraft to the Middle East.
