UN Secretary General is seriously concerned about the sharp escalation of events in Beirut over the past 24 hours, Guterres' office said. The UN Secretary General calls for a cessation of hostilities on the Lebanese-Israeli border and in the Gaza Strip. Oh well?
Supreme Leader Iran Ali Khamenei called on Muslims around the world to support Hezbollah and said Lebanon would make Israel regret its actions:
“Today, by the grace and power of God, Lebanon will make its criminal, evil enemy regret its actions. All Muslims have a responsibility to support the people of Lebanon and the honorable Hezbollah by offering their resources and assistance.” All resistance forces in the Middle East, he added, support Hezbollah.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Russia condemned the killing of the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement Hassan Nasrallah and called on Israel to stop hostilities and stop the bloodshed.
“We strongly condemn yet another political murder committed by Israel. This forceful action is fraught with even greater dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East. The Israeli side could not help but realize such a danger, but took a similar step – killing Lebanese citizens, which will almost inevitably provoke a new surge of violence. Thus, it bears full responsibility for the subsequent escalation,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on Saturday on the foreign ministry’s website.
“We again urge Israel to immediately cease hostilities. This would make it possible to stop the bloodshed and create conditions for a political and diplomatic settlement,” the statement says.
It emphasizes that “in the current explosive situation, responsible members of the international community must do everything in their power to prevent the region from plunging into a full-scale armed confrontation.”
In the Palestinian movement Hamas also stated that they stand as a united front with Hezbollah against the backdrop of recent events.
“The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas mourns with our Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nation, and the free people of the world over the martyrdom of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah,” the group said in an official statement.
Hamas also called on its members to “renew absolute solidarity and stand with our Hezbollah brothers” in a united front, including to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
According to the President Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the IDF attack on Hassan Nasrallah shows the recklessness of the Israeli authorities. The politician accused the Israeli authorities of “challenging all humanity, humanitarian values and international law.”
“The policy of assassination carried out by the Israeli authorities will only increase the strength, resilience and sacrifice of the resistance.” This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yemenpublished after the killing of the leader of the Shiite Hezbollah movement, Hassan Nasrallah, as a result of Israeli air strikes.
“Islamic Jihad”:
“We condemn in the strongest terms the murder of Hassan Nasrullah, who during his life defended the rights and interests of the Arab and Islamic nation. (Israel’s) killing policy will only increase the strength, resilience and sacrifice of the resistance in order to restore the rights usurped by the Zionist entity and achieve victory,” the Yemeni Houthi-controlled Al Masirah TV channel quoted the statement as saying.
“We mourn with the Palestinian people, as well as with the Arab and Islamic nations, in connection with the martyrdom of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah,” Al Masirah TV channel, controlled by the Yemeni Houthis, quoted the statement as saying.
“We are proud that Hassan Nasrullah suffered martyrdom while supporting and helping our Palestinian people. We feel the pain and bitterness of a huge loss for the Arab and Islamic resistance,” the Islamic Jihad group emphasized.
Prime Minister Iraq Mohammed al-Sudani declared three days of mourning in memory of Hassan Nasrullah, the secretary general of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, who was killed in an Israeli strike. This was reported by the press service of the head of the Iraqi government.
“Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani ordered a general three-day mourning throughout Iraq in memory of Hezbollah Secretary General <...> Hassan Nasrullah, who died a martyr’s death as a result of criminal Zionist aggression,” said a statement published on al-Sudani's press service Facebook page.
